The Sweetwater All-Stars

Description

One of the few decent Quidditch Teams in the US, hailing from the great state of Tejas, the Sweetwater All-Stars!

Just something I've been tinkering with off and on since before HBP came out. I checked out Quidditch through the Ages to research the HolyHead Harpies (for my costume--pics of that coming eventually), and I noticed this team. Of course, North America doesn't have many good Quidditch teams, because, just like Muggle Americans, American Wizards perversely decide to ignore a fantastically awesome sport that every other country is obsessed with in favor of a ridiculously juvenille sport that no other contry even plays. Ah well, at least they don't call Quodpot "Quidditch" as well, just to confuse people (can you tell that someone likes her footie? And I don't care if I'm American--it's not soccer, it's football. Football, people! It just makes sense!)

Anyway, I saw that one of the two American teams metioned was from Texas, and I was suddenly bit by this urge to draw, of all things, hick wizards. I'm Southern, and over the past year I've learned that, despite all my geekly sophistication, there's this certain pride from being a Southern gal. Hell, I'll even sing along to country songs every now and again. So I just felt like drawing some Southern wizards who take pride in their heritage.

...guuf...I feel like a cheesy cartoon, though. A "genetic grab-bag of party favors" as Stewie would put it. Still, I like 'em. While I was coloring it, they told me their names, and I got to know their personalities. This annoyed me greatly, because I am never going to use them again. But anyway, there's (left to right, top to bottom): Michael (Beater), Derik (Beater and Captain), Maria (Chaser), Ellie (Seeker), Simon (Chaser), Bobby (Keeper), and Erik (Chaser). Erik's Derik's little brother and the "looker" of the group, but I dun' like him--I much rather Bobby or Simon, who's just as sweet as pie (Bobby is not sweet, but at least he's entertaining).
*random thing* When I started drawing this, I based Bobby off of "Budnick" from Salute Your Shorts. Dunno why.

....and it was after doing this piece that I realized how badly I needed a Wacom tablet.
I've got another version of it where they're outside, and even though it looks more "real" I like this one better. ...might upload the other under scraps or something...

yeah... Abraham Peasegood came from Europe to bring Quidditch and the mixture of the wand and ball created an explosion and he said "a-ha, the birth of a new sport." The other Quidditch team is Fitchburg Finches, a team i want to see a logo for.
